Sanandaj is located in the south of Kurdistan Province, at the altitude of 1450 to 1538 meters above sea level. This city climate is cold and semi-arid.
Power plant, petrochemical, textile, shoe making, tannery, paper making, chemical production, power generation, electronics and metal, non-metal mineral products, food and pharmaceutical products are the industries of Sanandaj.
In this city, there are many mines that are main exports materials of the city. Vahdat reservoir dam (winter quarters) is located ten kilometers north of the city on the river of Qeshlaq which created Vahdat lake and provides drinking water to the residents of Sanandaj.
In addition to industry, agriculture and animal husbandry shape the economy of Sanandaj. Historical buildings, mosques and edifices, the old bazaar, handicrafts, very delicate and single weft with symmetrical designs known as “Sane” rug, costumes, music, dancing, exquisite wood industry enjoy global reputation.
The beautiful nature of the region attract many ecotourist. The Sufi mystical ceremony is another tourist attraction in the city.
Sanandaj resident’s language is Kurdish and they speak in Kurdish Ardalani dialect.
